The significant development in the Sri Lankan tourism industry took place in 2007 was the implementation of the Tourism Act No. 38 of 2005. The promulgation of the new Act helped repealing the 41 year old Sri Lanka Tourist Board Act No. 20 of 1966 which was out-dated. The restaurant administrative decentralization enabled the creation of four statutory bodies, which functions independently; Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (STDA), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (STPB), Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), and the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM). These four new bodies have undertaken to develop, plan, setting standards, marketing, and promotion of tourism in Sri Lanka where results are eminent to the entire world.
